Engelberg – a well-known and popular excursion destination. This round tour leads from the impressive monastery to the picturesque River Aa and constantly affords wonderful views of idyllic rural landscapes and the spectacular mountain panorama.The starting point is in Engelberg itself. The section leads through the village directly to the grandiose entrance of the famous Benedictine monastery. Here you can delight in the gloriously laid out grounds within the history-steeped monastery walls. After this first rewarding stop, the route leads out into a lush natural world. Now begins a tour through the wonderful Bergtal valley, with intoxicating, far-reaching views over a gently rolling landscape framed by impressive mountains with snow-capped peaks. Now and then you spot picturesque farmsteads and small hamlets in the distance. You move along an easy path and involuntarily immerse yourself in the peace and tranquillity of nature. A branch-off leads to the River Aa, which flows along a wide river bed lined by wild vegetation. Part of the stretch leads through light woodland before views again open up over the idyllic, peaceful valley The route then leads back to Engelberg. There are several attractive options for taking a break along entire route.Accessibility Information
