Description
This trail is one of 67 wheelchair accessible trails across Switzerland described on the Mobility International Switzerland website:The Romandy, the French-speaking part of Switzerland, holds many natural experiences. One leads from the charming village of Travers to Couvet in Canton Neuenburg. A stretch that promises unspoilt nature and tranquillity in the Val de Travers, which is famous for it’s absinthe. The route starts in the village of Travers and leads into a peaceful natural world. You follow a wide path alongside the River Areuse, the main river in Canton Neuenburg. The route runs through the beautiful Juralängstal valley with views of lush green fields, untamed vegetation along the river bank and seemingly infinite distances. Only occasionally do you come across farmsteads built in traditional style. The mainly level path is lined with lush vegetation and gnarled trees. The region is marked by it’s appealingly rugged nature. The route takes you through idyllic scenery, accompanied by the murmuring of the river and the rustling of leaves. You also pass the now disused Travers asphalt mines sited a little off the route. The peaceful and out-of-the-way route leads to the rural village of Couvet. If you fancy a rest it’s worth stopping at the Centre Sportif Val de Travers, which has surprisingly light and modern architecture and is directly on your route. Suitably refreshed, you begin the return journey to Travers.Accessibility Information
