“The City of Charles Sturt prides itself on its 12 kilometres of natural coastline and pristine beaches.
However, for a large number of people in our community, particularly those who experience mobility impairment; access and inclusion at the beach can pose significant difficulties. They require assistance in their day to day lives due to disability or frail age and would find the beach to be inaccessible.
A budget bid in for 2017/18 to purchase a permanent beach mat would lead to Henley Beach becoming the 12th permanently accessible beach in Australia. We are proud to have facilitated an event that has allowed members of our community to enter the water after years or in some instances decades of isolation and exclusion.”
Accessibility Information
Currently accessible beach mats are in operation at Henley Beach between October and March/April annually (Thursday to Sunday).
Mat roll out is subject to tide times, weather conditions and resources.

Mobility Information:Can we hire beach wheelchairs?
Yes! Beach wheelchairs that can go into the water are available for free hire.
We have two types of beach wheelchairs for hire: Mobi-chair and DaVinci Mobility Beachster.
Hire Times:
Morning Hire: 8.30am – 12.30pm

Wheelchair Storage
Wheelchairs are stored at the Henley Surf lifesaving Club (246 Esplanade, Henley Beach) – storage area located on the Southern side, external to the building a MLAK key to the storage facility can be collected at the Henley Library (378 Seaview Rd, Henley Beach).
We encourage users to purchase a MLAK key for individual use.
Please note: MLAK Keys can only be picked up during Henley Library operating hours. Keys can be picked up to two days prior of your booking.
Keys must be returned within 1 day of booking (If out of library operating, hours- please place key in an envelope with your name and booking details on it and place in the library returns chute.
(It is the hirer’s responsibility to return the key promptly or late fees may apply)
