Accessibility information
General accessibility information:Getting around the property
Core Cider House sits on a sloping site and facilities are located across two levels. You can take a virtual tour of the property here.
The Orchard Bistro, Harvest Room and Old Apple shed are located on the upper level, the Cider Garden bar, outdoor eating area and playgrounds are located on the lower level and there are accessible toilet facilities on both levels. We’ve worked with access consultants to ensure that there is step-free access across each level with paved pathways designed in accordance with Australian Standards for wheelchair access. There is a “pram ramp” connecting the upper and lower levels but the gradient is steeper than 1:20 and we recommend that visitors with mobility difficulties check the Accessible Parking information below to determine the most suitable place to park for their visit.
All stairs and steps have handrails and there are tactile ground surface indicators and warning strips applied to all treads and nosings.
The Dragonfly Pond can be accessed by a paved road. The Sundowner Cottage accommodation is linked to the rest of the site by a bitumen driveway.
Our orchard is still a working farm so for safety reasons public access is restricted to tours (see below)
Accessible Parking
There are two accessible parking spaces in the upper car park for visitors to the Orchard Bistro and Harvest Room (take the first entrance - see photo) and there is another accessible parking space on the lower level with access to the Cider Garden area (take the second entrance - see photo). There are paved and step-free pathways from the accessible parking spaces to the adjacent venues. The parking space at the Sundowner Cottage is paved and there is a paved and level pathway from there to the cottage.
There is also a drop-off point in front of the Orchard Bistro for cars, vans and buses.
The Orchard Bistro
There is step-free access into and throughout the indoor and outdoor areas of the restaurant and generous circulation space between tables, which can also be moved. Meals are served to the table and the menu can be viewed online in PDF format. Tables are standard height.
The Harvest Room
The Harvest room is used for functions, or an extension of the other dining areas, and has step-free access throughout and standard height tables.
The Old Apple Shed
The Old Apple Shed is used for weddings and other functions, as well as for pre-booked Cider Tours, and has step-free access throughout.
The Cider Garden
Food is ordered and collected from the bar. As well as the lawn area, there are ample paved areas where patrons can sit and eat.
With portable eftpos devices the team are able to easily assist in taking orders and payments for mobility assisted guests at the Garden Bar, with the food collection point easily accessible and open, allowing the team to readily assist where required.
Sundowner Cottage
The Sundowner Cottage is a fully renovated two-bedroom cottage available for bookings. The cottage is located in a secluded spot uphill from the main facilities but connected by a paved road. There is step-free access from the on-site parking space into the cottage and step-free access within the cottage, however the bathroom is not wheelchair accessible. The interior is spacious and uncluttered. There is also a paved outdoor seating area which is three steps up from ground level.
Tours
Visitors can take an authentic tractor adventure tour through the 80 year old orchard on the Apple Express and learn everything about apples and the cider making process. The tour guide provides you with an insight into what we do; from cider-making and apple growing to the history and personalities of Core; there's lots to talk about! Check our website to see if tours are available.
We have also arranged Apple Express tours tailored to specific groups of visitors, including children with autism and seniors, and we are happy to take new enquiries.
The Apple Express is a large cart that is towed through the orchard by a tractor. There are two steps up into the cart (see photo) and bench seating.
Assistance Dogs
For the safety and wellbeing of our patrons and staff, only approved assistance dogs identified by a suitably marked coat or harness are permitted at Core Cider (to check if your dog is an approved assistance dog, we recommend that you read the WA regulations here).
Playgrounds
There are two playgrounds on site, a nature playground and a shaded play equipment, although these playgrounds have not been designed with accessibility specifically in mind and may not be accessible to all children.
