Accessibility Information
From the Hunter Valley Gardens Christmas Lights Spectacular FAQs:
Is HVG accessible to everyone?
Hunter Valley Gardens is located on a 25 hectare site. The garden paths are approximately 8km and contain loose granite which can be navigated by wheelchairs. Please wear sensible footwear and take all necessary precautions to prevent injury to yourself.
Is HVG accessible to prams and strollers?
Paths and ramps are wide enough to accommodate pedestrians, wheelchairs and strollers.
From Have Wheelchair Will Travel's blog:
- "We arrived at opening time and the queue stretched out for quite a way. I definitely recommend pre-purchasing your tickets. This is a little risky because in bad weather (ie thunderstorms) they do have to cancel the evening due to safety concerns but the pre-purchased ticket line was considerably shorter."
- "Accessibility is good throughout the gardens with ramps, accessible rest rooms and good paths."
- "We stayed in an accessible cabin at Cottages on Mount View. You can read all about our stay here."

There is plenty to see at the Hunter Valley Garden Christmas Lights Spectacular for all ages. The 8 kilometres of paths are made of loose compacted granite and easy to negotiate in wheelchairs when dry but if it rains then be prepared that the granite will stick to your wheels and spray everywhere.
They have an entertainment area, where you will see The Rock’n Elfy’s singalong show, it is a large area covered in rubber matting. This matting moves as you walk or wheel on it but is quite stable. This also links to Santa’s Workshop which is accessible by a short ramp. The level areas at the top and bottom of the ramp are black and with the ramp being the same colour it can be hard to see it once it gets dark. (While I was there a woman fell from her wheelchair when she underestimated how steep the ramp was. The ramp is approximately 1 metre in length but drops 1/2 a metre. I have spoken to the Garden Management about this and they are improving the visibility of the ramp).
There are some steeper grades of path throughout the Gardens which may require less mobile wheelchair users needing some assistance.
Once it gets dark you will enjoy the Christmas Lights and displays. Spend a bit of time in the 12 Days of Christmas area and listen to the song and watch it displayed in lights.
The gift shop is a bit tight to negotiate in a wheelchair due to the display shelves being close together.
